Tungsten carbide blades have a slightly lower service life by 15% to 20% than ceramic blades, however they are more resistant to breakage and are therefore often used in place of ceramic blades in specific conditions:

• short runs or in case of older equipment
• where uniformity of the material roll is not guaranteed
